Stand Anymore

about

Friends, I’m thrilled to finally share with you a song that’s remained in the vault for years.
It’s called “Stand Anymore,” and I hope it reaches you warmly.

I fondly remember these sessions with Greg Bieck at his home studio on Music Row here in Nashville. We’d work in between his Hall & Oates sessions and would often pass John Oates on the way in and out. That, of course, was a thrill, seeing as “Rich Girl” was a popular selection on my parents’ old Seeburg jukebox growing up.
G7, if memory serves?

The great Kris Bergnes had connected Greg and I after we’d written a beauty called “Hey Highway” (also coming soon!) with Mika Combs. A handful of sonic gems came out of those sessions, and I look forward to sharing them all.
This one has always been close to my heart, and my tear ducts, so it goes first.
Thanks for listening.

lyrics

The stamp on my hand says "21"
Can't remember where it's from
My bloodshot eyes burn with the light
All I see are flames and your goodbye

Reach in my pocket and there it is
The note you left with that last kiss
Words have blurred from all the tears
The simple truth so hard to hear

-well I stood by
While love died
My legs are too tired
To stand  for anymore

You won't notice when I'm gone
You'd barely felt me in your arms
I'm just a ghost who shared your bed
Another voice inside your head
That keeps you bound to your regret
I'm a stranger now, and you won't let me in.

...

-well I stood by
While love died
My legs are too tired
To stand for anymore
